Product Description
Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set
Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set Determines 3ø Direction of Rotation
The Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set permits the electrical contractor or industrial maintenance electrician to permanently connect and tape the terminals of the motor installation. All without having to first energize the motor by a temporary hookup from a power source, if available, to determine motor rotation. Therefore, the test set eliminates the need for temporary connections that can be time consuming, costly and quite hazardous, particularly where many large, high-voltage motors are involved. Also, certain types of drives should never be rotated in the wrong direction. Consequently, in such cases, the temporary hookup or trial method, having a fifty-fifty chance of being wrong, can do serious harm.
Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set Determines True Phase Sequence to 600V
The Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set provides a positive way to identify the leads of a disconnected polyphase motor. Also it identifies true phase sequence of energized 60Hz ac power lines up to 600 volts. Additionally, both are necessary to ensure that a motor will rotate in a prescribed direction when energized. There are three other important uses for the Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set:
- Determine the polarity of ∅power and instrument transformers;
- Identify phase and polarity of winding sections of multiple-winding (delta- and star-connections) motors;
- Additionally, it is as a continuity tester in checking electrical circuits.

Need for Determining Phase Rotation
The order of voltage waveform sequences in a polyphase system defines phase rotation or phase sequence. Also, in applications using a polyphase voltage source to power resistive loads, phase rotation will make no difference at all. Whether 1-2-3 or 3-2-1, the voltage and current magnitudes will all be the same. However, inductive Motor applications operating on three-phase power depend on having phase rotation being one way or the other which controls the direction of rotation of the motor. Since voltmeters and ammeters are useless in determining the phase rotation of an operating power system, enter Megger 560400 Motor Rotation Test Set.
