OWL Trek OTDR Optical Time Domain Reflectometers
Optical Wavelength Laboratories (OWL) OWLTrek Singlemode OTDR Series
OWL Trek OTDR Optical Time Domain Reflectometers are SingleMode OTDRs
OWL Trek OTDR Optical Time Domain Reflectometers are optoelectronic instruments used to characterize optical fibers in fiber cables. An OTDR is the optical equivalent of an electronic time domain reflectometer. It injects a series of optical pulses into the fiber under test and extracts, from the same end of the fiber, light that is scattered (Rayleigh backscatter) or reflected back from points along the fiber. The scattered or reflected light that is gathered back is used to characterize the optical fiber. This is equivalent to the way that an electronic time-domain reflectometer measures reflections caused by changes in the impedance of the cable under test. The strength of the return pulses is measured and integrated as a function of time, and plotted as a function of fiber length.
OWL Trek OTDR Optical Time Domain Reflectometers are the Ultimate Solution for Hand-Held OTDR Applications ~ Locate breaks and other faults in Singlemode fibers within six feet up to 80
miles away!
Live Mode. Live mode is another advanced feature normally found in high-end OTDRs. Live mode continuously shoots OTDR traces every few seconds, allowing users to monitor changes in the optical fiber in real-time. In addition, when the OWLTrek is attached to a PC, OWLView software includes a Live Viewer mode that takes the OTDR trace and expands it onto the PC display for easier viewing.
OWL OTDRs come with a USB download cable, battery charger (US only), and a USB flash drive containing manuals, quick reference guides, and videos, all in a hard-shell carrying case.
