Instek GFG-3015 Programmable 15MHz Function Generator

The GFG-3015 is a versatile and high precision programmable function generator, providing stable and accurate signals at up to 15MHz. Powered by Frequency Feedback technology, the GFG-3015 delivers frequency accuracy as low as 0.02% and a maximum resolution of10mHz. 10 front panel keys make memory setup and predefined signal production a breeze. With a massive feature set and great value, the GFG-3015 is an extremely versatile instrument used in education, repair service, production and experimental labs.

The Instek GFG-3015 Function Generator provides Sine, Triangle and Square waveforms with DC offset and variable duty cycle at 20ppm frequency stability and accuracy. The low drift rate and -55dBc low sine wave distortion output significantly extend product application range in various market sectors. The TTL/CMOS output is also available for fulfilling various requirements.

Instek GFG-3015 Function Generator Technology vs Conventional Technology

The unique frequency feedback method utilized by the Instek GFG-3015 is a new technique that generates stable output frequency with extraordinary accuracy for a Function Generator.
The traditional function generator design approach typically uses constant current circuit techniques that are easily affected by operational temperatures, the quality of the individual resistors and capacitors and other key components to resulting in poor frequency accuracy. The innovative design for GFG-3015 Function Generator solves these problems by utilizing a frequency feedback system controlled by a powerful frequency-counter-integrated-circuit to provide full functions including Period test, Duty test, Ratio test, Time interval and Pulse width, direct display and direct connection with CPU system. The Instek GFG-3015 Function Generator design uses this integrated circuit  to read output frequency value at any time. Then CPU will modify the correct value of D/A converter immediately according to this value, so that the result is a highly accurate frequency signal from GFG-3015 Function Generator.

 

The Instek GFG-3015 Function Generator generates signals by continuously delivering a series of sampling values from a sine waveform table (stored in RAM) to DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) for waveform construction. With a low pass filter circuit to filter out the harmonics of the DAC output and smooth the signal, the Instek GFG-3015 Function Generator is able to provide a stable output with very low waveform distortion. This is very different from the way a conventional Function Generators generates a signal. Since a conventional FG needs to obtain its signal by switching current sources between positive and negative directions all the time, the "Ringing" distortion occurs at the peak of the signal waveform where the switching is activated. This distortion is especially serious when the output amplitude is low. For the INSTEK GFG-3015 Function Generator, however, the waveform distortion remains low even when the output amplitude is at only 2mVpp.
