AMPTEC 641N Minaturized IgniterTester
Smaller~ Safer ~Smarter ~ More Compact ~ Lighter Weight ~ More Ruggedized
AMPTEC's new 641 series of Igniter Circuit Testers is 40% lighter weight (vs. 630ES, 630BN, 640N), even more compact (~35% smaller), and smarter (Automatic Self-Test of the unit, intelligent battery charging system and test lead continuity). The battery powered AMPTEC 641N comes US NAVY Ordnance Safety Board Approved, and its ranges measure from 2.0 ohms to 2 Megohms Fullscale. With a low power consumption LCD display, the AMPTEC 641's battery power outlasts the 630ES and 640N style Igniter Testers 4 fold. Running with the new smart rechargeable "AA" (NiMH) power system, keeps you informed and charges about 3 times faster. Features: "Autorange", Self-Test, automatic test lead integrity checks, a digital milliammeter to check the milliampere level (see below) of the failsafe current source, test lead storage compartment and more . . .
Amptec's 641 Series failsafe igniter testers are ruggedized, water-resistant, portable and are specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on explosive devices (i.e. Tomahawk Cruise Missile, ESSM squibs, igniters, flares, rocket motor squibs, detonators). The 641 Series (either 641N or 641RS) case is water proof when closed to a depth of 3 feet. Amptec's 641 Series also floats in water. It can be operated outside in direct rain, as it has silicon rubber boot seals over all switches. The 641N offers features a 2.0 Megohm range to facilitate "isolated" electrical resistance measurements (highest range). The Amptec 641RS version additionally offers a high level 20.0 Megohm range for even higher "isolation" measurement requirements.

AMPTEC 641N Offers Unique Test Lead Continuity Check
The AMPTEC 641N and the AMPTEC 641RS both perform an automatic "Self-Test" when first powered up. The operator just inserts the Test Leads, 2 or 4 wire red and black banana jacks based from the "Connections" port, into the "Self Test" jacks. There is a prompting red flashing red LED labeled "Connect Leads" (prompt) to get started. see below

AMPTEC 641N "Self-Test" Automatic Operational Safety Check
In the "Self-Test" mode the AMPTEC 641N first automatically checks Test Lead continuity. If the Test Leads, plugged into the "SELF-TEST" jacks establish continuity with the "connection" port then the unit displays "PASS" and goes on to the next test. If a "FAIL" for no continuity is determined, the system performs another continuity (quick retest) then powers off or shuts down automatically. Until good test leads are used, it is impossible to operate the AMPTEC 641 series of compact Igniter Testers.

AMPTEC's 641N Features a Digital Milliammeter to monitor & Display Igniter Test Current
During in the initial "Self-Test" mode, the 641N and 641RS automatically tests/checks the failsafe current source level to insure that the current level ise less than 5 mA. The AMPTEC 641N and 641RS Igniter tester comes with a digital DC milliammeter built in. This allows the 641N/641RS Series operator truly verify that the test current is at "SAFE" levels (must be less than 5 mA to PASS), just prior to measuring squib resistance.

Self-Test Proof that the Test Current is Less than 5mA
It was shown to be fully MIL STD 810 Method 511 Rev F. "Explosive and Volatile Atmospheres" compliant @ +50°C. This means the AMPTEC 641NSafety Bond Milliohmmeter when making contact with the item under test ( aircrfat chassis, fuel tank etc) does not produce sparks with minimal kinetic energy levels (not hazardous, will not ignite jet fuel or other volatile hydrocarbons). |

641N (2.0Ω~2.0MΩ & 641RS(2.0Ω ~20MΩ) Continuous Ranges through 7 & 8 Decade Ranges
Still in "Self-Test mode (only takes 15 seconds) - Each range of the AMPTEC 641 and/ or 641RS, starting with the 2.0 ohm range, is automatically tested against its precision internal cardinal point refernce resistor (1.0 ohm resistor for the unit's 2.0 ohm range). The 20 ohm range is tested automatically against a precision 10 ohm reference resistor. A "PASS" or "FAIL" determination is made for each range. The AMPTEC 641N goes in continuous decades to 2.0 Megohms range (tops), while the AMPTEC 641RS version additionally offers a high level 20.0 Megohm range for even higher "isolation" measurement requirements. After passing the "Self-Test" for each range the meter displays "OK"and is then is fully operationa and ready to go to work safely. The unit's automatic "SELF-TEST" is a mere 15 second routine to get it fully "Operational".

Built-In Reference Resistors (8) for "Seld-Test Calibration Checks
If you are ever left scratching your head over a poor quality resistance measurement connection or wire harness with an intermittant "open" state the 641RS and/or 641N make troubleshooting a snap. The two Igniter Testers come with a built-in set of reference resistors. By connecting the unit's test leads to "Self-Test" jacks, the reference resistors are immediately accessed. When the meter is "manually selected " to be on the 2 ohm range (see above) a precision cardinal point 1.0 ohm resistor is connected to the "Self-Test" jacks. The meter displays the measured value of the 1 ohm reference (e.g., 1.0005 ohms). On the 20 ohm range (manually selected) a precision 10 ohm reference resistor is connected to the "Self-Test" jacks. An Engineer/Technician can quickly determine or trouble-shoot most connection related problems with a cross check of it's reference resistors from 1.0 ohms to 10 Megohms (on the 641RS and 1Ω through 1.0 megohm max on the 641N).
AMPTEC's Experienced Engineering Makes the Diference
A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure formed by a conducting material, or by a mesh of such material. Such an enclosure blocks the influence of any external static electrical fields onf the 641N/641RS's internal electronics. The 641N Series electronics are encased in a shielded Faraday cage, all connected to chassis ground, to provide additional electronic noise immunity, Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. AMPTEC RESEARCH's design and manufacturing engineers have over 36 years of experience in the manufacture of Igniter Testers. Integrity of Measurement NIST Traceable Certification
Integrity of Measurement and an instrument's accuracy is important to us and should be important to you. To provide proof, in writing, that an instrument is truly accurate, many instrument companies charge extra for an instrument's calibration certificate. Not at AMPTEC RESEARCH.
The AMPTEC 641N Igniter Tester comes with a U.S. N.I.S.T. traceable calibration Certificate, good for 1 year, at "No Extra Charge"
