AMPTEC's 640SL Igniter Test Set was Designed for and Approved by the US Nuclear Safety Community and DOE
The AMPTEC RESEARCH 640SL Igniter Tester design was coordinated with Sandia National Laboratory and US Department of Energy (DOE) related Safety Instrumentation Engineers for use in Nuclear EED applications. The portable AMPTEC 640SL rechargeable battery powered HE meter is also known as the SE3332. It can be used in the harshest environments (cold or hot, wet or dry) that may be encountered. The water resistant 640SL Explosive Safety Igniter Tester (SE3332) is at home outdoors on the test range, as it is indoors as a general purpose test bench HE meter. The 640SL wide range resistance measurement capability spans from 2.0Ω (0.1 milliohm resolution) to 20 MΩ (19.999 MΩ) full-scale. The AMPTEC 640SL features: a water-resistant main front panel, wide dynamic resistance range, AC/DC RMS Voltage measurement (0 to 200 V), self-contained independent analog DC Milli-ammeter /voltmeter (to verify 640SL test current levels and open circuit voltage clamp levels are safe) and more. The AMPTEC 640SL-l uses a gold plated Reynolds 311 measurement access port/connection. The AMPTEC 640SL-2 uses a four wire Kelvin (n type) notched limited access connection port. From components to circuit schematic detail, the entire SE3332 design/drawing package has been frozen for N.E.S Board approval purposes.
The new Amptec 640SL HE Meter for Sandia Labs and US Department of Energy related Labs
From the meter’s electronic components, mechanical packaging to complete circuit schematic detail, the entire 640SL (SE3332) design/drawing package has been reviewed and approved by US Government Explosive Safety Committees personnel. The AMPTEC 640SL is now part of the SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORIES Instrumentation Network. Critical component failure analysis has been performed by U.S. Government Explosive Safety Engineers (both SANDIA and US Department of Energy related Safety Instrumentation engineering) to absolutely and independently confirm/insure the AMPTEC 640SL with any possible single component failure will not exceed 10mA of output or will be less than 1.6 VDC open circuit.
Measure on the Go - Sunshine or Rain The AMPTEC 640SL internal packaging and impact resistant case is constructed to a water tight standard. The polypropylene instrument case is airtight (dust tight) and even water proof when closed (and purge valve is closed) to a depth of 3 feet. The 640SL is not vulnerable to dust and can be operated outside in direct rain, (i.e. silicon rubber boot seals). The waterproof overlay covers a unibody-aluminum front plate mounted on a water/dust-resistant compressed o-ring in bezel construction. The high contrast Al\1PTEC 640SL LCD display is easily read outdoors in sunlight.
Measure Low to High Resistance to 20MΩ. The 640SL measures electrical resistance using a 2.0Ω, 20.0Ω, 200.0Ω, 2.0KΩ, 200KΩ, 2.0MΩ and a 20.0MΩ full scale ranges. The low ohm range (2.0Ω Full-scale) makes it ideal for safe use on explosive bridge wire (EBW), squibs and other HE related ordnance. The 20.0 MΩ range is useful for determining "true open circuit continuity status" on igniter wiring to a high level of confidence. The AMPTEC 640SL also measures AC or DC RMS voltage up to 200V. Voltage measurement makes the 640SL ideal for safely measuring any residual or Stray Voltages that may be present on EBW, or squib related wiring. Foil Calibration Stickers prevent any unauthorized access to the internal 640SL electronics. The 640SL-l uses gold plated Reynolds 311 connectors for its test lead connection and to access its functional self test sets. |
Safety First in Testing Ordinance Circuits Pg.1 Pg.2 Pg.3
The 640SL Explosive Safety Igniter Tester was developed by AMPTEC to advance and modernize ultra-safe testing of explosive ordinance devices associated with most missile and aircraft programs. AMPTEC’s 640SL not only provides greater accuracy and resolution than older, obsolete igniter testers, e.g., Alinco 101BFG or the Simpson 4000ITS, it additionally advances safety features previously unavailable. There are a number of critical military, commercial aerospace, and aircraft applications that use squibs, EEDs (electronic explosive device), detonators, explosive bolts, and a number of other types of explosive/blasting devices. It is critically important that these devices detonate when properly triggered. It follows that it is of paramount importance to know for certain that the integrity of the ordinance firing circuit continuity is indeed intact. It is also critically important that these devices do not detonate while being tested for wiring continuity/integrity. AMPTEC RESEARCH manufactures each instrument (Igniter Tester) with redundant, dual fail-safe protection which includes current limiting and resistor network circuitry that limits and insures that the instrument test currents cannot exceed specified amounts which are usually several orders of magnitude lower than the required firing current. Even in the unlikely event of a worst case component failure, the output current limiting network is still in effect. |
