Safety First in Testing Explosive Ordinance Circuits
The 630BN Explosive Safety Igniter Tester was developed by AMPTEC to advance and modernize ultra-safe testing of explosive ordinance devices associated with most missile and aircraft programs. AMPTEC’s 630BN not only provides greater accuracy and resolution than older, obsolete igniter testers, e.g., Alinco 101BFG or the Simpson 4000ITS, it additionally advances safety features previously unavailable. The input lead and the battery charger are mutually exclusive and cannot be used simultaneously as they access the same connector. The output and measurement circuitry of the 630BN is certified to limit the output test current to specified maximum values several orders of magnitude below that required to fire or detonate ordinance devices. Fail-Safe analysis has been performed by all branches of the US Military, Nuclear Agencies and foreign defense Ministries. The reports are available for reference purposes.
USAF Munitions Safety Committee Approved
The 630BN Water Resistant Safety Ohmmeter (Igniter Tester) internally is identical to the US Air Force Munitions Safety Board approved AMPTEC 630BN Igniter Tester circuitry. The advantage is the AMPTEC 630BN is a ruggedized, water-resistant, portable digital ohmmeter which have been specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on explosive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, detonators). The 630BN case is water proof when closed to a depth of 3 feet. The 630BN also floats in water. Since it has silicon boot seals over all of its switches, it can even be operated outside in direct rain.
Physically Impossible to Simultaneoulsy Connect the Battery Charger while Measuring
In addition, the limited access (one use at a time) external connection port on the 630BN also makes it physically impossible to simultaneously connect the AC/DC Charger while measuring with the test leads. Whether charging the NI-CAD batteries or measuring a squib’s resistance, there is only one connection port, it's a case of "either/or" but never both. The 630ES operator can connect the AC/DC Battery Charger to the 630BN limited access connection port for recharging the NI-CAD Batteries thus mechanically blocking access for the measuring sense leads. When measuring, using the sense leads, the same limited access connection port then blocks any battery charger connection.
US Naval Ordinance and Security Activity
The AMPTEC 630BN Igniter Tester is approved for use on US NAVY TOMAHAWK Cruise Missile and STANDARD Missile squibs by the NAVAL ORDINANCE CENTER. Designed for military ordinance programs as a ruggedized Igniter Tester, the AMPEC 630BN features: a completely water-resistant main operation panel, self-contained DC ammerter and test resistors (to verify 630BN test current levels are safe and resistance ranges accurate), a notched limited access external connection port (see impossible to connect Charger when Measuring discussion below), wide viewing angle (tilted) ergonomic display - readable in direct sunlight, shielded Faraday cage for EMP protection, Electro Static Discharge (ESD) prevention, noise immunity, and more...
