The 620RK Explosive Safety Igniter Tester
The 620RK Low Resistance Explosive Safety Igniter Tester is an RS232 Remote Controlled Ordinance Digital Milli-Ohmmeter which has been specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on electronic explosive devices (EEDs), e.g., squibs, igniters, flares, detonators, warheads. The 620RK’s circuitry has been analyzed and approved by the USAF Munitions Safety Board and many U.S. Gov. Safety Boards as well as most branches of the armed forces for specific military programs.

Safety First in Testing Ordinance Circuits
The 620RK Explosive Safety Igniter Tester was developed by AMPTEC to advance and modernize ultra-safe testing of explosive ordinance devices associated with most missile and aircraft programs. AMPTEC’s 620RK not only provides greater accuracy and resolution than older, obsolete igniter testers, e.g., Alinco 101BFG or the Simpson 4000ITS, it additionally advances safety features previously unavailable. There are a number of critical military, commercial aerospace, and aircraft applications that use squibs, EEDs (electronic explosive device), detonators, explosive bolts, and a number of other types of explosive/blasting devices. It is critically important that these devices detonate when properly triggered. It follows that it is of paramount importance to know for certain that the integrity of the ordinance firing circuit continuity is indeed intact. It is also critically important that these devices do not detonate while being tested for wiring continuity/integrity. AMPTEC RESEARCH manufactures each instrument (Igniter Tester) with redundant, dual fail-safe protection which includes current limiting and resistor network circuitry that limits and insures that the instrument test currents cannot exceed specified amounts which are usually several orders of magnitude lower than the required firing current. Even in the unlikely event of a worst case component failure, the output current limiting network is still in effect. |
Ultimate Safety Isolation for Ground Loop Prevention
The 620RK Portable Igniter Tester is powered from an ultra-isolated medical power source to insure measurement isolation from the power mains to prevent potentially harmful ground current loops. Safety doesn’t stop there. |

Automate Your Ordinance Testing with AMPTEC's Ultra-Opto-Isolated RS232 Interface
The AMPTEC 620RK Igniter Circuit Tester can be safely operated remotely with complete safety confidence via the "optically isolated RS232C interface". The AMPTEC's optically isolated serial interface allows complete remote control (i.e. change to the desired range). Remote reading of the actual igniter (squib) resistance is completely controlled by the serial interface of a PC (e.g. COM2 port). For safety purposes, the optically coupled interface is designed to be electronically isolated (protected) and will withstand up to 5,300 VRMS input or output via the RS232 isolated serial interface. In addition the RS232C Remote Control Serial interface includes a rear panel Gold Plated 4 Wire Terminal strip (Voltage high, Currrent high, Voltage low, and Current Low) which is wired in parallel with the unit's front panel measurement input jacks.
The AMPTEC 620RK Explosive Safety Igniter Tester can be safely operated 24 Hrs/7Day without batteries. It’s proven “Medical Safety 3KV DC Isolated Power Supply” technology is the same used in monitoring human patients wired to electrical instrumentation. The AMPTEC 620RK automated Igniter Circuit Tester is presently running in dozens of U.S. Anti-Ballistic Missile systems (24Hrs/7). It can be remote controlled, e.g. PLC or PC, to change to a given resistance range, safely take squib readings and then send them over the unit’s optically isolated RS232C serial interface to the controller.
