Many fiber optic network bids and Requests For Quote (RFQ) are citing cabling standards to specify the set of guidelines (such as fiber length) that the network installer must follow during the network installation. Adherence to such standards is meant to ensure the quality of the installation and guarantee that the network will perform as it was designed. The process of testing a network installation to ensure its adherence to specified standards is called certification, and often requires hardcopy documentation as proof of adherence to standards

The WaveTester / WaveSource MM Test Kit contains the tools
necessary for certifying multimode fiber optic links against a myriad
of popular cabling standards, including two user-customizable
standards. The current WaveTester series meters come standard with a small state-of-the-art UNIVERSAL adapter fully reliable to allow use of ST, SC, FC or any 2.5 mm patch cables as test cable which saves money on consumables (test cables wear out). Sorry physics and optics do not allow the same universal connector to work well on any brand of the light source. Hence, light sources must have ST, SC, or FC connector ports.

OWL's WaveTester is offered in two models.  The WT-1 is N.I.S.T. Traceable at four commonly used industry standard wavelengths (850, 1300, 1310, and 1550), as well as 1490nm for FTTH testing.  This makes it an ideal choice for both multimode and singlemode testing.

The WaveSource MM multimode LED source contains a single-port,
dual-wavelength output (850nm / 1300nm), which is temperaturestabilized for accurate measurements. Two connector options are available (ST and SC).

Each WaveTester-WaveSource test kit comes with a N.I.S.T. TraceableWT-1 or WT-1V optical fiber power meter one or more complementary fiber optic light sources, based upon the application.  Many configurations are available.  Included with each test kit are a hard-shell carrying case, protective rubber boots, carrying straps, 9-volt batteries, certificate of NIST-traceability, and a CD-ROM with free OWL Reporter software and operation manual.

OWL's WT-1 and WT-1V optical power meters are multimode and
singlemode ready, and contains a user-friendly Fiber Link Wizard
that performs link budget calculation, and sets a reference value
using the characteristics of the link. This reference is the PASS/FAIL
threshold and is calculated against the chosen standard. Up to 1000
fiber runs may be stored, and downloaded to a PC for report
generation using our OWL Reporter software. Its universal port
allows connections to ST, SC, and FC, and also includes a 1.25mm
universal port for connection to LC, MU, and other SFF connectors.

Integrated optical length tester port is typically ST.  For connecting the ST port to different connector types, simply use an adapter patch cable (for example, ST or SC). (Patch Cords not included)
